Chasing Eclipses

Egypt sets up a special committee to prepare for the 2027 eclipse

The committee will choose viewing sites, provide services there and coordinate security, transport and help for visitors.

8 September 2026

The Egyptian government has created a special committee to organise activities around the total solar eclipse of 2 August 2027, Mexican outlet adn40 reported on 8 September 2026.

According to the report, the committee’s work covers identifying suitable observation sites, setting up basic services at those sites, and coordinating security, transport and assistance for tourists. It is also studying how visitors will reach the viewing areas, including domestic flights and ground transport.

Egypt has the longest totality of the 2027 eclipse on land, a little over six minutes along the Nile Valley between Sohag and Luxor, so it expects a large share of international eclipse travellers.
